My little model Annabeth

03.24.10

Holly & Brent Christensen were kind enough to let me borrow there little ball of energy, Annabeth.  She was the perfect model for an idea that came out of another session at the studio.  She looks like a little angel as she is surrounded by floating tulle.  We love how these portraits came out!  Super cute.  Can’t wait for Holly to see the rest of them on Friday.

Learning from the “Father of Photojournalism”

03.12.10

What does Gregg and Mariah Carey, Paula Abdul, James Taylor, Vera Wang, Ted Turner, John Kennedy, Jr. and Maria Shriver & Arnold Schwarzenegger have in common?   They all know Denis Reggie.

Gregg recently spent a few days studying with world-renowned photographer Denis Reggie (www.denisreggie.com).
Breaking the mold of traditional wedding photography, Denis pioneered the artistic documentation of weddings without posing, prompting, or fictionalizing events – what he named “Wedding Photojournalism”.
Denis Reggie has photographed the weddings of Mariah Carey, Paula Abdul, James Taylor, Vera Wang, Ted Turner, John Kennedy, Jr. and Maria Shriver & Arnold Schwarzenegger to name a few.
Of course, not all of Denis’ clients are celebrities.  This hands off approach is perfect for anyone who isn’t interested in contrived images, but wants natural documentation of their special day.
Gregg learned a few new techniques that we are so excited about adding to our repertoire.  Goes to show you, despite having degrees in photography and over 12 years of experience, there is always more to learn.

The New Mr. & Mrs. Carr

03.10.10

Melanie and Jordan recently tied the knot at the Baughman Center on a chilly Saturday morning.  Though the day started out with rain, which would send most brides for a tailspin, Melanie in Jordan were very calm about the weather.  Despite starting off the day with rain, by the time we got to the Baughman Center the rain had stopped and blue skies were all you could see.  After a short & sweet ceremony performed by Chad Reed, the happy couple was immediately on their way to Touchdown Terrace for an amazing party, also known as the reception.

Jordan’s entire family including grandparents are all University of Florida graduates.  The stadium was the perfect place to celebrate the union of these two physical education teachers.

What a fun party!  Let’s see, Melanie’s dad, Doug, made all of the ex-boyfriends give Jordan back their house keys.  Little did Jordan know, that was every man in the room, including the DJ. The happy couple decided to share the cake cutting with the maid of honor and best man, who were surprised to get cake in their face.  One of the bridesmaids did the worm.  There were some amazing moments – all captured by us!  So if you don’t remember what you did that night, be nice to Melanie and Jordan, they have the evidence.

Celebrations Catering did a fabulous job turning a very large room that seats a few hundred people into an intimate space for 65.  And they were great about making sure the bride and groom were very well taken care of.  The bartender went as far as to know how much wine the bride had in her glass, every time it got low – he was there filling it!  What service.

Congratulations!  The rest of the pictures will be ready for everyone to see in a few weeks.

High Dynamic Range

03.06.10

We are proud to now be offering a new style of photography for interiors and exteriors called High Dynamic Range.  The purpose of this style of photography is to be able to show detail where a normal image would fall short.  High Dynamic Range, or HDR as it is called, gives detail in the darkest shadows as well as the brightest highlights.  If you look at the example below as a large print, you can see the railing and chandeliers inside the lobby, something you could never do with film or regular digital photography.

Be aware, a lot of people are going to starting saying they can do HDR, but it is more than pressing a button in photoshop.  We have studied with Ben Willmore and Dan Burkeholder, 2 of the experts in HDR and learned the secrets and tricks to creating a true HDR image.

Check out the image below.  Before is the type of image you’d get from a photographer who did not know HDR.  After is the HDR image we created of the same scene.  If you’d like to see the detail in the full size file.  Please feel free to contact the studio and I’ll be happy to share the file with you.

ACEL kickball tournament

02.26.10

We had a blast last Saturday at the ACEL (Alachua County Emerging Leaders) kickball tournament out at Diamond Sports Park.  It was a beautiful day, amazing considering we had record lows for the days proceeding the event.  24 teams competed to raise money for their favorite charity.  Some of the teams were PPI/CPC, AdFed, Sun Country Sports, Tutoring Zone, Leadership Gainesville 36 and many, many more.  There was tons of food from great place’s like David’s BBQ, Chick Fil A, Mia Apa Latin Cafe, Dominio’s, Ben and Jerry’s and Pizza Vito.  There were also yummie margarita’s made by April Sweet at Region’s Bank.

Contact ACEL if you’d like to be part of next year’s kickball Tournament.  It is a great time!

The Calsam's Wedding

11.05.09

The long awaited blog for Justine and Mike.  (Sorry this took so long.)  We’ve really gotten to know Justine and Mike very well and they are an awesome couple.  Betsy from The Plant Shoppe did an amazing job making the site look like a beautiful fall scene, even thought it was 85+ degrees out side in October.  Justine was extremely cool up to the point where she put Mike’s ring on the wrong finger.  Which brought a good laugh between the couple.  Their first dance was super sweet and I think Justine got more cake on Mike then he did on her.  The garter toss was a battle that landed two guys on the floor on top of each other.  And the toast by their siblings were sweet as well as very funny.  We had a blast with their family.  Justine looked amazing in her dress from Jay’s.  It was a beautiful day and here is just a sampling of the pictures that will go online tomorrow.  Until then…enjoy!
